Enifer, a spin-off company from VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, was founded by five scientists in 2020 to develop and commercialize the proprietary PEKILO® technology further. A process originally developed and used by the Finnish forest industry at a commercial scale, the PEKILO® technology enables the biotechnological conversion of dilute side streams into a high-protein ingredient, PEKILO® mycoprotein. By transforming circular economy by-products into sustainable, planet-friendly protein, we are pioneering a new approach to food systems—one that supports healthy, delicious diets for everyone while minimizing environmental impact.

We are on a mission to make planet friendly protein accessible throughout the food chain. Now we are gearing up the production of PEKILO® mycoprotein with a new €33M factory located in Kirkkonummi, Finland. With already existing collaborations with the world’s leading food and feed companies, we are prepared to annually upcycle food industry side streams into up to 3,000 tons of sustainable fungi-based protein. The plant will be the world’s first commercial plant to produce such a mycoprotein ingredient from sidestream raw materials.

Would you like to be our new Process Specialist?

Enifer is looking for a Process Specialist to join its growing community of professionals. In this role, you will play a key part in the daily operations of our brand-new production facility. You will operate our automated, fermentation-based PEKILO® production process, ensuring everything runs smoothly and efficiently. Your responsibilities will include process monitoring, sampling, basic maintenance checks, and operational support tasks. You will take corrective actions when needed and make sure that the process stays on track. This is not your typical line operator role, it is a versatile and responsible position where you will get to use your expertise in process operations. You will be involved right from the factory’s ramp-up phase and receive comprehensive onboarding to our process, including our state-of-the-art automation system. In addition to your own team, you will collaborate closely with maintenance, quality and product development to support process optimization and continuous improvement. The role follows a 12-hour shift model, working in pairs as part of a continuous 24/7 operation.

We are currently looking for 3–5 people to join the team at this stage of production. This is a permanent, full-time position, and you will be employed by Enifer. Our factory is located in Kantvik, Kirkkonummi.

What are we looking for?

You have practical experience from an automated industrial production environment and a solid understanding of process operations. Your educational background can be vocational, e.g. in process industry or food production, or from an engineering field e.g. chemical or process engineering. Experience in the chemical, bio-based or food industries, particularly with fermentation or pasteurization-like processes, is highly valued. Maintenance and technical expertise or experience operating automation equipment is also considered an advantage. However, the most important thing is your attitude and willingness to learn.

As a person, you are proactive and take ownership of your work, you are motivated to develop your skills and grow into a versatile Process Specialist. While you are eager to expand your skills, it is equally important that you are not afraid of routine tasks and feel comfortable working in shifts. Curiosity, a collaborative mindset, and a willingness to learn new skills will help you thrive in this role. You will be part of our growing multicultural team, so we expect fluency in either English or Finnish.
