Would you be our new Lead Engineer?
The Lead Engineer plays a crucial role in ensuring that technical solutions in substation projects are executed according to the agreed contract, while balancing costs and customer needs. This position involves understanding customer needs and project requirements, planning and overseeing engineering tasks, and then selecting and implementing the right techniques to meet those needs within budget. The Lead Engineer also ensures that all engineering work complies with the necessary laws, regulations, and standards specific to substation projects.
In this role, the Lead Engineer manages overall design activities, tracks project progress, and adjusts plans as necessary. They prioritize tasks for the engineering team, approve design documentation, and monitor any technical risks that might arise during the project. Additionally, they handle testing processes, such as Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), which are critical in substation projects. Building and maintaining strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders is another key responsibility. The Lead Engineer works closely with various teams, including customers, contractors, sales, project management, and internal departments like engineering, sourcing, and production, to ensure the successful delivery of substation projects.
The role’s seniority can be adjusted based on your expertise and experience. This is a permanent, full-time position. Your office and most of your closest colleagues are located at our Vaasa headquarters, but you can also work from any of our offices and flexibly remotely in a hybrid model. This position also requires regular traveling mostly within Finland, Sweden, and Norway.
What are we looking for?
A strong technical background is crucial for this role, ideally with a degree in electrical engineering (B.Sc. or M.Sc.). Lead Engineer should have experience in project management, scheduling, and hands-on engineering tasks, along with excellent problem-solving skills and knowledge of relevant laws and standards.
Effective communication and teamwork are also essential, as the Lead Engineer will often facilitate meetings, provide training, and assist new team members in getting started. While fluency in Finnish or Swedish is a plus, proficiency in English is required.
This senior role demands solid experience in similar positions working with substations, as well as the ability to handle larger or more complex projects and apply new techniques when necessary. Additionally, we value someone who is adaptable and can thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. Your ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, while maintaining a high level of attention to detail, will be key to your success in this role.
